How you have set up your GST calculation will determine how you need to setup your automated PayPal invoices with Billx


Generally, there are 3 ways you can calculate GST for your sales when using a eCommerce site

  1. Your eCommerce site will calculate the GST and pass the total amount (including GST) to PayPal 
  2. PayPal will calculate GST on the amount your eCommerce site passes to PayPal.
  3. Billx will calculate GST from the amounts based on PayPal

If your eCommerce site calculates GST

If your eCommerce website calculates the GST and passes the total amount to PayPal, then you need make sure it passes to PayPal the GST amount as well. 

If your PayPal to calculate GST

If your PayPal account calculates GST, it will add 10% to amount. The GST amount are passed to Billx so a valid tax invoice will eb created. 

If Billx Calculates your GST

If Billx is calculating your GST it will apply 1 or 2 rules

  1. If the GST fields are blank from PayPal, it will assume the amounts are GST inclusive and 1/11 will be calculated as the GST component
  2. If the GST fields have a value, Billx will use those values as the GST amounts.
